SPYNS Youth Programs for Kids and Young People in Schools

Spyns provides high quality resilience building programs to young people attending primary and high schools in the Penrith area.

Programs can be tailored to suit each situation and can reflect particular student needs as identified by the school. Our experienced facilitators work effectively in partnership with teachers to offer young people the best of both worlds.

We can also provide professional development workshops to enable schools to continue to provide sustainable programs to support young people to reach their optimum potential.

Examples of Programs we run in Primary and High Schools

Rock and Water

A martial arts based program which develops social skills, self awareness and self-esteem in boys. Although designed specifically for boys and young men, girls and young women also benefit. Rock and Water can be used as a tool for anger management and as part of protective behaviours and anti–bullying strategies.

Friends for Life

Assists young people to develop life skills to cope with difficult situations. Builds emotional resilience, self confidence and problem solving skills. Encourages peer learning and builds peer support networks. Helps to prevent anxiety and depression. Developed by Pathways Health and Research Centre, Queensland.

Girls Can Do Anything

A popular program with many schools, ‘Girls Can Do Anything’ targets girls who often slip under our radar. These girls may have low self-esteem, negative body image or lack self-confidence. ‘Girls Can Do Anything’ offers a variety of modules such as Self Defence, Body Image & Self Esteem, Relationships and Futures Unlimited.

Making Tracks

A Spyns project funded by Better Futures to support Aboriginal young people at school, Making Tracks promotes school connectedness through: hands-on learning projects, resilience building activities, family support and ATSI cultural activities.

Forward Thinking

This program uses hands-on projects to motivate young people, apply academic learning and develop goal setting skills. An emphasis is put on young people taking responsibility for their own lives and choices while acknowledging the challenges they face. Students’ individual strengths and values are explored and validated. Motivation, stress management and self esteem activities are all included.

RAP (Resourceful Adolescent Program)

RAP aims to reduce the risk of anxiety and depression in high school students. Recognising that adolescence is a time of considerable change and stress, RAP is designed to promote positive coping abilities and a strong sense of self in the face of difficult circumstances.

Kinks and Bends

Encourages young people to explore issues surrounding violence and sexual safety in relationships. ‘Kinks and Bends’ also teaches young people how to avoid risky situations and support friends. It tackles tricky issues like date rape, drink spiking and violence in relationships with sensitivity. Only for ages 14+. Developed by the Central Coast Violence Against Women Strategy.
