Workshop for parents and carers - Teaching literacy to your children starts early, here is how...

Did you know that parents are the key teachers of children when they are in the early age period before preschool? At this age there is a wonderful bond with your child, and it is the ideal time to start to create enjoyment and enthusiasm for children to read. UniSA’s Associate Professor in Early Childhood Education, Susan Hill says that “Parents who encourage ‘live’ language learning by reading with their babies and singing and chanting rhymes, can give their children a head start of up to five years of language-rich interaction before starting school”. If you would like to know more about early literacy for your children, there will be a workshop held on November 3rd 11am-1pm at the Glenmore Park Youth Centre. This workshop is for parents and caregivers of children up to 2 years. For more information and bookings please contact Amie on (02) 47331499.

Spyns submission into homelessness

The Australian Government’s Green Paper on Homelessness has been a welcome initiative. In order to produce an informed White Paper and national plan of action for 2020, it is imperative that the Government considers submissions from services either responding to the issue of homelessness or working with homeless people in the community. This will ensure any new ‘Option’ adopted will be built to include the invaluable benefit of a broad range of community experience and specialist knowledge…. Read more

Youth @ Glenmore Park

School Holiday Program a great success

Last school holidays two groups of local kids got together to create finger puppets and hone in on their craft and drama skills. Their puppets were a great success, and it was a fun day for all involved. Here is a snapshot of their work.
