About SPYNS

Spyns Inc. is a community based independent organisation.   What this means is that local people interested in the community, with skills to share, come together to oversee the management and direction of the organisation.  Being independent means we are not religiously or politically affiliated with any particular ideology.

We are an incorporated association which means that we have a constitution and a membership base and we have to report each year to the Department of Fair Trading and our members (our Annual General Meeting).  Anyone can join our organisation that lives or works in the Penrith area.  Our management committee is formed from this membership base. Nomination to perform management responsibilities occurs at our Annual General Meeting usually held in September each year.

Spyns uses a ‘policy governance’ model of management, that is, the management committee sets the broad direction of the organisation, oversees employment, legalities and finances and ensures there are adequate policies in place to protect its workers and the public who use the services we provide.

To undertake the hands-on management work Spyns employs three workers

  • A General Manager

  • An Operations Manager

  • An Aboriginal Services Manager

  • A Finance and Administration Worker

  • An Office Administrator Trainee

These workers are located at Spyns administration office at the South Penrith Neighbourhood Centre.

Spyns receives funding from the Department of Community Services to run a number of community development, prevention and early intervention services in the Penrith area.   Some of our work is easy to see but some of our work is behind the scenes working on sector development, social policy and supporting local planning and coordination processes.

Spyns has a strong reputation in the community services sector in the Penrith area and has a long history of providing quality services to the people of Penrith: nearly 25 years!!
